Overview

Phra Phuttha Pusaya Khiri Sri Suvarnabhumi, commonly known as Luangpho U Thong, is a massive cliff-side Buddha image carved directly into the limestone mountain of Khao Tham Thiam in Suphan Buri. The sculpture stands 108 meters high with a lap width of 65 meters, making it one of the largest rock-carved Buddha images in the world. The project was initiated by Phra Thammapitok to utilize the abandoned quarry site, transforming an industrial scar into a place of religious significance. The surrounding area features an extensive park with artificial waterfalls, landscaped gardens, and stone carvings depicting the life of Buddha. It is designed to represent the historical significance of the Dvaravati Kingdom, which once thrived in the U Thong area. The cliff face itself serves as a meditation space and a monument to the region's ancient Buddhist history.
