Interesting facts
1

Pylon 6 was designed with a specific shape to withstand the high wind speeds common on the Suzuka Mountains.

2

The mountain is home to the rare Japanese serow (kamoshika), a goat-antelope species often spotted near the cable car lines.

3

Mount Gozaisho is the site of the southernmost ski resort in Japan to feature both a chairlift and dedicated slopes.

4

The autumn foliage descends the mountain gradient over several weeks, creating a vertical patchwork of colors starting from the peak.

5

During January and February, the summit trees are frequently encased in 'frost flowers' caused by supercooled water droplets in the wind.

Overview

Gozaisho Ropeway is a 2,161-meter aerial lift system ascending Mount Gozaisho in the Suzuka Quasi-National Park. The cable car overcomes an elevation gain of 780 meters, transporting passengers from the Yunoyama Onsen base to the 1,212-meter summit. The system features a signature white tower, Pylon 6, which stands at 61 meters, currently the tallest ropeway tower in Japan. At the summit, visitors access a network of hiking trails, a ski area operational in winter, and observation decks overlooking the Ise Plain. The area is distinct for its granite rock formations and high frequency of rime ice (juhyo) formations during the coldest winter months.

Photo spot

The viewing platform near the summit station offers a clear vantage point of the Pylon 6 tower and the sprawling Ise Bay coastline.

Insider tips

Check the official website for real-time wind conditions, as the ropeway halts service during high-velocity gusts.

Bring a windproof jacket regardless of the season, as summit temperatures are significantly lower than those at the base.

Carry sturdy footwear if you intend to walk the granite-strewn trails around the summit station.

What to avoid

Do not rely on base-level temperatures to gauge summit weather, as the thermal difference can exceed 10 degrees Celsius.

Good to know

Occasional closures occur for routine maintenance or during severe mountain storms; check live status before travel.

Etiquette

Refrain from drone usage within the park; remain on designated hiking paths to protect the alpine flora.
