Overview

The Basilica Concattedrale Santa Maria Annunziata e San Vicinio is a Romanesque cathedral located in the heart of Sarsina, Emilia-Romagna. It is dedicated to Saint Vicinius, the first bishop of Sarsina and patron saint of exorcisms. The current structure sits atop the remains of a pre-existing Roman-era temple and Christian basilica from the 10th century. The interior retains a Romanesque layout with three naves supported by ancient monolithic columns reused from the original Roman buildings. The crypt houses the sarcophagus and relics of Saint Vicinius. A prominent feature is the 'Cathedra of Saint Vicinius,' an ancient stone chair associated with healing rituals. The building underwent significant modifications in the 18th century, which altered some original medieval aesthetics. It remains the seat of the Bishop of Cesena-Sarsina.
