Overview

The Old Church (Stara crkva) in Kragujevac, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was commissioned by Prince Miloš Obrenović and completed in 1818. It served as the primary place of worship for the ruling Obrenović dynasty and was the site where the first Serbian constitution, the Sretenje Constitution, was proclaimed in 1835. The structure is built in the style of Balkan ecclesiastical architecture, characterized by its modest dimensions and stone foundation. It was the cathedral church of Kragujevac until the construction of the larger Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos. The surrounding churchyard contains the graves of significant historical figures from the Serbian Uprising era. It remains an active religious site under the jurisdiction of the Eparchy of Šumadija. The exterior features a prominent bell tower added during later renovations in the 19th century.
