Overview

The Suspension Bridge of Rochemaure, known as the Passerelle Himalayenne, is a 320-meter long pedestrian suspension bridge crossing the Rhône River. It occupies the site of a 19th-century suspension bridge that was dismantled in the 1970s after falling into disrepair. The current structure reuses the original historical masonry piers and stone towers dating back to 1858. It connects the town of Rochemaure in the Ardèche department to the left bank of the Rhône near Ancône. The bridge serves as a vital link for the ViaRhôna cycling route, allowing transit over the river for pedestrians and cyclists. The design features a metal-deck construction that spans the main channel of the Rhône. It provides an elevated vantage point for observing the river ecosystem and the surrounding volcanic landscape.
