Overview

Sapadere Kanyonu is a 360-meter-long canyon located in the Taurus Mountains, featuring a series of cascading waterfalls and a suspended steel-and-wood boardwalk. The canyon was formed by the erosion of the Sapadere Stream over centuries, resulting in narrow rock formations and natural swimming basins. Water temperatures in the canyon pools remain consistently low, even during the peak of the Turkish summer. The boardwalk infrastructure allows visitors to traverse the length of the gorge safely, terminating at the primary waterfall. The surrounding area contains diverse flora and fauna, including rare bird species and endemic plants. The site is situated within the Alanya district and is carved into soft sedimentary rock layers. It serves as a natural contrast to the arid coastal regions of the Mediterranean. The entire trail is pedestrian-only.

Insider tips

Wear water-resistant footwear with good grip, as the wooden boardwalk can become slippery from mist near the waterfalls.

Bring a light jacket, as the shade and cool water make the canyon significantly colder than the surrounding valley.

If you intend to swim in the natural pools, bring a swimsuit and a towel, though be prepared for very cold water.

What to avoid

Visiting during the middle of the day in July and August when the site is most crowded with regional tour groups.

Good to know

Access may be restricted or hazardous during heavy winter rain or spring snowmelt due to high water levels.

Etiquette

No jumping from the cliffs into the pools; maintain silence to respect the natural environment.
