Overview

Castle Velké Losiny is a significant Renaissance manor house located in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic, known for its well-preserved arcaded courtyards. Originally built by the Zierotin family in the late 16th century, the castle replaced an earlier water fortress. It is primarily recognized as the site of the infamous 17th-century witch trials, which were orchestrated by inquisitor Jindřich František Boblig z Edelstadtu. The interior contains one of the best-preserved collections of Flemish tapestries in the country. Visitors can view the original painted ceilings and extensive period furnishings ranging from the Renaissance to the 19th century. The estate includes an extensive English-style landscape park covering approximately 10 hectares. The building survived extensive damage during the Thirty Years' War and subsequent ownership changes. It remains a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
