Overview

Tsuyama Castle, known as Kakuzan Park, is one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom spots and serves as a major site for historical castle architecture. The original castle was constructed in the early 17th century by Mori Tadamasa, taking 12 years to complete. While the main keep was demolished in 1874 during the Meiji period, the Bitchu Turret was reconstructed in 2005 using traditional carpentry methods. The castle grounds feature extensive stone walls that reach heights of up to 10 meters, demonstrating classic Edo-period fortification techniques. It is strategically situated on a hill overlooking the Tsuyama Basin. Visitors can observe the layout of the former inner, middle, and outer baileys. The site contains over 1,000 cherry trees, primarily Somei Yoshino, which create a dense canopy during the spring bloom. The park serves as a hub for the Tsuyama Cherry Blossom Festival.
