Overview

Sera Lake is a landslide-dammed lake located within the Söğütlü Valley in the Akçaabat district of Trabzon. The lake was formed in 1950 following a massive landslide on the Derecik stream. It occupies a basin spanning approximately 17 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of around 55 meters. The surrounding landscape consists of dense broad-leaved forests, primarily beech, hornbeam, and spruce. In 2010, the area was officially designated a nature park to preserve its unique ecological status. The lake's surface area fluctuates seasonally due to the influence of the Derecik stream's water intake. Visitors can access a perimeter walking path that circles the lake to observe local flora and fauna. Facilities including wooden piers and seating areas have been constructed to facilitate recreation around the waterfront.

Photo spot

The wooden jetty near the main entrance offers a clear, unobstructed panoramic view of the lake against the forested valley walls.

Insider tips

Bring waterproof footwear as the perimeter path can become muddy after rainfall.

Visit during the shoulder seasons to avoid high-density tourist crowds during mid-summer weekends.

Carry a windbreaker or light jacket even in summer due to the rapid temperature drops common in deep valleys.

What to avoid

Avoid relying on swimming, as the water can be cold and contain underwater debris from the original landslide.

Etiquette

Maintain silence near the water's edge to avoid disturbing wildlife and respect local signage regarding waste disposal.
