Overview

Clocota Fall is a unique waterfall located in the resort town of Geoagiu-Băi, Romania, fed by the thermal waters of the Clocota stream. Unlike most waterfalls, its water temperature remains relatively constant throughout the year, preventing it from freezing in winter. The waterfall drops approximately 20 meters over a wall of moss-covered tufa rock. Its distinctive green color is a result of the mineral-rich thermal water precipitating on the limestone rocks. The site is easily accessible via a short trail from the town center. The surrounding vegetation is lush and remains green for longer periods due to the localized microclimate created by the thermal stream.

Insider tips

Wear footwear with high-traction soles as the rocks and paths surrounding the falls are perpetually wet and slippery.

Visit during the shoulder seasons to avoid the crowds, as the path is narrow and can get congested.

Bring a waterproof cover for your camera or phone to protect it from the persistent mist at the base of the falls.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to swim in the pool directly beneath the waterfall, as the current and slippery stones create safety risks.

Etiquette

Avoid climbing on the tufa rock formations as they are fragile; stay on the designated paths to prevent erosion.
