The current neo-classical temple structure was built in 1888 to shelter the source. The water originates from a depth of over 1,500 meters, rising due to natural pressure through fissures in the rock. The plaza, known as Kranzplatz, historically served as the center of Wiesbaden's elite spa culture. Visitors can observe the steaming water flowing into a basin where the mineral deposits accumulate on the stone surfaces. The spring is managed by Mattiaqua, the municipal spa and water utility, which monitors the water quality and output. The site remains a functional geological feature rather than a swimming facility.
