Overview

Daisen Park Japanese Garden is a 26,000-square-meter traditional strolling garden designed to reflect the architectural history of Sakai. The garden showcases the 'tsukiyama-rinsen' style, featuring a central pond, artificial hills, and interconnected streams. It was designed by landscape architect Iwakuni Kaneshige and completed in 1989. The grounds include a tea ceremony house named Shin-an, which was originally constructed in the 17th century by tea master Sen no Rikyu’s disciple. The garden layout utilizes the borrowed scenery of the adjacent Daisen Park. It serves as a tribute to the merchant culture of Sakai, which flourished during the Muromachi and Momoyama periods.
