Overview

Teatro Alessandro Bonci is an 1846 neoclassical theater designed by architect Vincenzo Ghinelli in the heart of Cesena. It features a traditional Italian-style horseshoe auditorium with four tiers of boxes and a large gallery. The interior is decorated with frescoes by Francesco Coghetti and stucco work by Girolamo Magnani. It serves as the primary stage for the Emilia Romagna Teatro (ERT) Foundation, hosting a diverse season of prose, dance, and music. The building replaced a previous wooden structure on the same site known as the Teatro Vecchio. The theater was named after the Cesena-born operatic tenor Alessandro Bonci. The structure underwent extensive restoration in the early 21st century to modernize stage technology while preserving its historical aesthetic. It is a cornerstone of the regional theatrical circuit in Italy.
