Overview

Mt Erciyes is an extinct stratovolcano reaching an elevation of 3,917 meters, serving as the highest peak in Central Anatolia. The Erciyes Ski Center features over 100 kilometers of ski slopes serviced by a modern lift system capable of transporting 26,750 people per hour. The mountain contains 18 mechanical lifts, including high-speed gondolas, connecting the Tekir, Hacılar, Hisarcık, and Develi gates. Snowmaking infrastructure covers approximately 60% of the skiable terrain, extending the season beyond natural snowfall. Geological activity formed the surrounding Cappadocia region through millennia of volcanic ash and lava deposits. The mountain functions as a year-round destination, transitioning from winter sports to high-altitude cycling and trekking in the summer months. It is located 25 kilometers south of Kayseri city center.

Insider tips

Rent equipment at the mountain base rather than in the city to ensure gear is calibrated for the specific snow conditions of the day.

Check the daily wind reports, as high-altitude lifts may pause operations during heavy gusts for safety.

Wear high-SPF sunscreen, as the reflection off the snow at high altitudes significantly increases UV exposure.

What to avoid

Attempting to summit the peak without a certified local guide or proper mountaineering equipment during winter.

Good to know

Ski lifts operate seasonally during winter months; some high-altitude chairlifts operate in summer for sightseeing.

Etiquette

Respect ski slope markings and off-piste boundaries; follow all safety instructions from lift operators.
