Overview

Rozhledna Velký Javorník is a 26-meter-tall wooden observation tower located at the summit of Velký Javorník in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. Built in 2013, the structure features a steel staircase encased in a wooden shell, designed to withstand the harsh weather conditions typical of the mountain peak. It provides panoramic views of the Beskid mountains, the Jeseníky range, and the Ostrava basin. The site is situated at an elevation of 918 meters above sea level. Adjacent to the tower is a functional mountain cottage built in the traditional Wallachian style, which provides shelter and refreshments. The surrounding area serves as a significant intersection point for several marked hiking and cycling trails. The location is frequently utilized by paragliders due to the favorable wind currents at the summit.

Insider tips

Bring layers, as wind speeds at the summit are significantly higher than at the base of the mountain.

Carry a physical map, as cellular reception can be intermittent in the dense forest sections leading to the summit.

What to avoid

Attempting the ascent during winter months without proper micro-spikes or snowshoes, as the trails can become iced over.

Good to know

Open year-round, but access may be restricted during extreme weather events or heavy snowstorms.

Etiquette

Respect the mountain environment by staying on marked trails and carrying out all litter.
