Overview

The Cathedral of Saint Peter Apostle (Duomo di Cerignola) is one of the largest cathedrals in the Apulia region, designed by architect Almerico Marino. Construction began in 1873 and was completed in 1934, replacing the older Chiesa Madre in the Terra Vecchia district. Its architectural style is defined by its massive octagonal dome and a prominent façade featuring three bronze portals. The interior houses significant artworks, including a collection of paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries and a notable crucifix. It serves as the co-cathedral of the Diocese of Cerignola-Ascoli Satriano. The building is constructed largely from local tuff stone, which gives it its distinct pale appearance.
