Overview

Il Spir is a cantilevered steel viewing platform extending over the Ruinaulta, often referred to as the Swiss Grand Canyon. Located at an altitude of 977 meters, the structure provides a panoramic outlook over the Rhine Gorge. The platform is engineered to project into space, offering a view of the limestone cliffs and the Vorderrhein river below. The canyon was formed approximately 10,000 years ago by the Flims Rockslide, the largest landslide in the Alps. The name 'Il Spir' translates from Romansh to 'the swift' or 'the falcon', referencing the vantage point's height and bird's-eye perspective. Visitors reach the platform via a path through the Flims forest. It is an open-air site accessible year-round, though conditions vary by season.

Photo spot

What to avoid

Attempting to climb the exterior railings or stepping off the designated path near the cliff edge.
