The Nizamat Imambara is the largest congregation hall in India, built in 1847 by Nawab Mansur Ali Khan Feradun Jah. Located in Murshidabad, it replaced the original wooden structure commissioned by Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah, which was destroyed by fire in 1846. The present structure was constructed under the supervision of Colonel MacLeod of the Bengal Engineers. The architectural design features a blend of traditional Islamic motifs and Victorian colonial influences. It serves as a prominent religious site for the Shia Muslim community during Muharram. The building is situated directly opposite the Hazarduari Palace, forming a key component of the Nizamat Fort complex. Its massive white facade dominates the local landscape along the Bhagirathi River. The structure is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
