Overview

The Shiva Statue of Murudeshwara is the second tallest Shiva statue in the world, standing at 123 feet. It is constructed from reinforced concrete and finished with a bronze-colored paint that reflects sunlight. The statue is situated on the Kanduka Hill, which is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides. It serves as the primary icon of the Murudeshwara Temple complex, which features a 20-story Raja Gopura entrance. The statue depicts Lord Shiva in a meditative seated posture. The complex includes an elevator facility that transports visitors to the top of the Raja Gopura for an aerial view of the statue and the coast. The site is located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The construction of the statue took approximately two years to complete.
