Overview

The Tunca Bridge, also known as the Ekmekçizade Ahmet Paşa Bridge, is a historic stone structure spanning the Tunca River in Edirne. Commissioned by Ekmekçizade Ahmet Paşa, the bridge was completed in 1615 under the reign of Ottoman Sultan Ahmed I. It features a unique design with 11 arches and 10 piers, extending approximately 144 meters in length. The structure originally served as a vital transit point for the Ottoman army and trade caravans moving toward the Balkans. It is constructed from cut limestone and incorporates relief carvings on some of its piers. Following significant damage from 20th-century floods, the bridge underwent comprehensive restoration to preserve its structural integrity. It currently serves as an pedestrian-accessible link near the historic center of Edirne.
