Overview

The Armstrong Air & Space Museum is housed within a distinctive, earth-bermed, moon-crater-shaped building located in Wapakoneta, Ohio, the hometown of Neil Armstrong. The museum chronicles Ohio's contributions to aerospace history and provides extensive documentation of the Gemini VIII and Apollo 11 missions. Key artifacts include the Gemini VIII spacecraft, in which Armstrong and David Scott performed the first successful docking of two vehicles in space. Visitors can also view Neil Armstrong’s Gemini VIII spacesuit and his flight suit from the Apollo 11 mission. The facility features a digital planetarium that provides immersive sky-viewing experiences. An outdoor exhibit displays a F5D Skylancer, an experimental aircraft piloted by Armstrong during his career as a test pilot. The site serves as a formal repository for a vast collection of personal items and historical records from the astronaut's life and career. The museum is operated by the Ohio History Connection in partnership with the Armstrong Air & Space Museum Association.
