Overview

Buu Long Pagoda, also known as Thien Lam Tu, is a prominent Theravada Buddhist temple located on a hillside overlooking the Dong Nai River. Its architecture uniquely blends Indian, Thai, and Nguyen Dynasty influences, characterized by white-and-gold gilded structures and high, ornate spires. The centerpiece is the Gotama Cetiya stupa, which stands 56 meters tall and serves as a major landmark visible from the surrounding area. The site features a large, artificial blue lake reflecting the pagoda’s reflection, surrounded by landscaped gardens and rock formations. It functions as a working monastery, housing relics of the Buddha and various Buddhist disciples. The temple complex is noted for its intricate carvings and decorative motifs inspired by ancient Southeast Asian craftsmanship. Unlike many other pagodas in Vietnam, it strictly adheres to Theravada traditions rather than Mahayana practices.
