Overview

The Shrine of Our Lady of Litmanová is a Marian pilgrimage site located on Zvir Mountain in the Pieniny range of eastern Slovakia. It became a site of religious significance following alleged apparitions of the Virgin Mary to two local girls, Ivetka Korčáková and Katka Češelková, starting in 1990. The site features a small wooden log cabin where the apparitions reportedly took place and a larger open-air altar designed for mass gatherings. It is under the jurisdiction of the Greek Catholic Church, specifically the Archeparchy of Prešov. Thousands of pilgrims visit during the main annual feast held on the first Sunday after the feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos in August. The surrounding area includes a cross and a spring of water, which visitors often associate with spiritual healing. The shrine remains an active place of worship with regular liturgical celebrations.

Bring a bottle to collect water from the nearby spring.

Check the local Greek Catholic liturgical calendar online before visiting to see if a pilgrimage or mass is scheduled.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to drive your personal vehicle all the way to the shrine entrance, as restricted access applies to the final forest path.

Etiquette

Modest dress is required; shoulders and knees should be covered. Maintain silence within the cabin and surrounding prayer areas.
