Overview

Izbucul Tăuzului is one of the most significant karst springs in the Apuseni Mountains, characterized by a deep, turquoise-colored pool. It functions as the resurgence point for the underground waters originating from the Cetățile Ponorului complex. The spring is located at the base of a towering limestone wall, part of the Bihor-Vlădeasa karst system. Divers have explored the underwater cave system to depths exceeding 85 meters, making it one of the deepest submerged galleries in Romania. The water temperature remains consistently cold throughout the year. The spring outlet is shaped like a circular basin, formed by the heavy pressure of the subterranean river forcing its way to the surface.

Photo spot

The elevated vantage point on the bank directly facing the spring provides the clearest view of the turquoise pool and the limestone cliff backdrop.

Insider tips

Wear waterproof hiking boots as the terrain surrounding the pool is frequently muddy and slippery.

What to avoid

Attempting to climb the steep, unstable limestone cliffs surrounding the spring pool.

Etiquette
