The mosque was inaugurated in 1999, two years after the passing of Siti Hartinah, known as Ibu Tien Suharto.
The name 'At-Tin' is a direct reference to Surah At-Tin in the Quran, which also serves as a play on the name of Ibu Tien.
The building was designed by architects Ahmad Nu'man and Fauzan Noe'man.
The structure can accommodate up to 9,000 congregants in the main prayer hall, with additional capacity in the surrounding plaza.
The mosque’s design intentionally combines modern structural engineering with traditional Javanese and Islamic architectural aesthetics.
At-Tin Great Mosque is a prominent religious landmark in East Jakarta, constructed to honor the memory of the late Ibu Tien Suharto. The mosque is situated within a 70,000-square-meter complex adjacent to the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah park. Its architectural design features a distinctively wide dome and a prominent minaret that reaches 50 meters in height. The main prayer hall is designed to accommodate thousands of worshippers simultaneously. The facility includes extensive landscaped gardens and water features surrounding the central building. It serves as a community center for religious education and social events in addition to its function as a house of worship.

Visit during the late afternoon to experience the cooling temperatures in the outdoor plaza.
Ensure your mobile phone is set to silent before entering the main prayer hall.
Take advantage of the extensive peripheral walking paths that offer different vantage points of the dome's geometry.
Avoid visiting during Friday congregational prayers if you are not there to worship, as the facility reaches full capacity and access for photography is restricted.
Visitors must dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees; women are required to wear a headscarf inside the prayer area. Shoes must be removed and placed in designated storage before entering the main hall. Maintain silence in the prayer area.
