Overview

Gunung Prau is a dormant volcano in the Dieng Plateau region, standing at an elevation of 2,565 meters above sea level. It is widely recognized for its expansive ridgeline offering unobstructed views of Mount Sindoro and Mount Sumbing. The terrain consists primarily of grassy meadows, distinct from the dense forest cover typical of other Javanese peaks. The peak is accessible via multiple trekking trails originating from villages like Patak Banteng and Dieng. It serves as one of the most accessible sunrise trekking destinations in Central Java. The summit features a relatively flat plateau, providing significant space for camping. High-altitude microclimates often result in freezing temperatures at night, occasionally leading to frost on the grass during the dry season. The mountain is part of a protected forest area within the Dieng Volcanic Complex.
