Overview

Sanctuary Laguna el Peral is a protected coastal wetland located in El Tabo, Chile, serving as a critical habitat for diverse migratory and endemic bird species. The sanctuary centers on a freshwater lagoon separated from the Pacific Ocean by a coastal dune system. It functions as a bird-watching destination managed by the National Forest Corporation (CONAF). The area encompasses approximately 15 hectares of protected land. Visitors can observe species such as the black-necked swan, cormorants, and various types of coots. The terrain includes wooden walkways designed to facilitate observation while minimizing ecological disturbance. The lagoon's water level is dynamic, fluctuating based on rainfall and groundwater levels. It is one of the few remaining coastal wetlands in the Valparaíso region.
