Overview

The F60 is a massive, decommissioned overburden conveyor bridge spanning 502 meters in length, once used for brown coal strip mining. Standing 80 meters high and weighing 11,000 tons, it remains one of the largest movable technical machines in the world. Visitors can ascend to the top via guided tours to observe the surrounding Lusatian Lake District. The bridge was manufactured in Lauchhammer and operated until 1992 at the Klettwitz-Nord opencast mine. It earned the nickname 'Eiffel Tower of Lusatia' due to its distinct steel truss architecture. Today, the structure serves as an industrial monument and venue for cultural events and concerts. The site features an exhibition detailing the history of coal extraction and regional structural change.

Insider tips

Book a guided tour in advance to access the upper walkways of the steel structure.

Wear wind-resistant clothing, as it is often significantly breezier at the top of the bridge than on the ground.

Bring binoculars to scan the re-cultivated landscape and nearby bodies of water.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to climb the structure without a guided tour or authorized supervision, as the machinery is industrial-grade and potentially hazardous.

Good to know

Closed on Mondays during the off-season; limited operation or reduced tour availability during winter months.
