Bukit Mertajam Forest Park, known locally as Cherok Tokun, serves as a recreational tropical rainforest sanctuary in the Seberang Perai region. The park features a complex network of trails that ascend toward the 545-meter peak of Bukit Mertajam. Geologically, the area is significant for its granite rock formations and old-growth dipterocarp trees. It functions as a crucial water catchment area for the surrounding Kulim and Bukit Mertajam plains. Visitors encounter a mix of paved walking paths at lower elevations and steeper, rugged jungle terrain as they climb higher. The park provides habitat for diverse fauna, including long-tailed macaques and various tropical bird species. Several small stream crossings intersect the primary hiking routes. It is the largest public forest area on the mainland side of Penang.
