The small islet located approximately 100 meters offshore is officially known as Kalathas Islet.
The beach is positioned on the north coast of the Akrotiri peninsula, facing the Cretan Sea.
The sand here is finer and lighter in color compared to many other beaches in the Chania regional unit.
Kalathas Beach is a sheltered, sandy bay located on the western side of the Akrotiri Peninsula. The beach features shallow, crystalline waters and a small islet reachable by swimming from the shore. The seabed is predominantly sandy, making it a popular choice for families with children. Prevailing northern winds, known as the Meltemi, can sometimes create waves in this exposed northern location. The beach is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas managed by local businesses. A few tavernas and cafes are situated directly behind the shoreline providing dining options. Free public parking is available in the vicinity of the beach entrance.

Check the wind forecast; if northern winds exceed 4-5 Beaufort, the sea can become choppy.
Arrive early in the morning during July and August to secure a sunbed.
Do not leave personal belongings unattended on the sand, and avoid parking on narrow village streets that block local traffic.
Sunbed and umbrella services are seasonal, typically operating from late spring through early autumn.
