Overview

Lac des Settons is a 367-hectare reservoir located in the heart of the Morvan Regional Natural Park in Burgundy, France. Constructed between 1854 and 1861, the lake is retained by a stone gravity dam originally built to facilitate the floating of firewood to Paris. The reservoir is fed by the Cure River and sits at an altitude of 597 meters. It serves as a hub for non-motorized water sports, including sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. A perimeter path of approximately 13 kilometers encircles the lake, catering to hikers and mountain bikers. The shoreline is characterized by forested slopes and artificial sandy beaches. The lake is designated as a protected site within a regional park, preserving its water quality and surrounding ecosystem. It remains one of the few places in the region where swimming is officially monitored in designated areas during the summer months.
