The park occupies the site of the former St. Jacobi cemetery, which served the St. Jacobi Church congregation.
Following the cessation of burials, the area was repurposed into a public green space in the 1960s.
Many of the original 19th-century grave monuments were preserved in situ during the park's development.
The park covers approximately 7 hectares of land.
