Overview

Shōryūji-jo Castle Park occupies the site of a 14th-century fortress historically significant for the Battle of Yamazaki in 1582. The park features a reconstructed castle keep built in 1992 which serves as a local history museum. It is a premier regional destination for viewing over 100 cherry blossom trees that bloom in early April. The grounds incorporate remnants of original stone walls and earthworks from the Sengoku period. A stone monument dedicated to the marriage of Hosokawa Tadaoki and Akechi Tamako (Gracia) stands within the park. The site provides elevated views overlooking the Nishiyama mountain range and the surrounding Nagaokakyo landscape. It is maintained by the Nagaokakyo municipal government as a public green space.
