The fort follows a traditional Mughal water-fort architectural style, featuring a square layout with high, thick walls and corner bastions. The main defensive feature is a circular bastion facing the river, designed for mounting heavy cannons. The structure includes a central residential area and a raised platform, often used by Mughal commanders for surveillance. Much of the original outer moat has been filled or altered by urban encroachment over the centuries. Archaeological excavations have revealed significant brickwork and mortar techniques characteristic of the period. It stands as one of the few surviving examples of riverine defense systems in the Bengal region.
