Overview

Kebun Buah Mangunan is a hilltop agro-tourism site situated at an elevation of approximately 200 meters above sea level in the Dlingo highlands. The site is most famous for its 'sea of clouds' phenomenon, where low-lying fog fills the Oya River valley below the viewing platform. The grounds span 23 hectares and feature various orchard trees including durian, rambutan, starfruit, and mango. Visitors reach the main vantage point by following a ridge that overlooks the meandering Oya River. While originally developed as a fruit plantation, it now functions primarily as a panoramic lookout point for the Bantul region. The vegetation consists of a mix of cultivated tropical fruit species and native forest remnants. Access is restricted to paved hillside roads that wind through the Dlingo forest area.

Insider tips

Bring a warm jacket as temperatures are significantly lower at the peak than in the Yogyakarta city center.

Check local weather reports for the previous night's rainfall, as cloud density in the valley depends on high humidity levels.

Wear shoes with good traction, as the walkways can become damp and slippery from early morning dew.

What to avoid

Do not wait for the 'sea of clouds' during the peak of the rainy season, as the weather is often too overcast or rainy to provide clear views.

Etiquette

Dress modestly as is standard in the Bantul Regency region; keep noise levels low to respect the quiet natural environment.
