It covers a vertical distance of 160 meters over a track length of approximately 650 meters. The journey takes about seven minutes, crossing through forested slopes and pine woods. It serves as a primary transit link to the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia and the Pousada de Santa Luzia. The system features two passenger carriages operating on a counterweight principle. Insider tips

Purchase tickets at the base station, as there are no automated machines at the summit arrival point.

Sit on the side of the carriage facing the ocean for the best coastal views during the ascent.

Combine the ride with a walk down the mountain stairs if you want to explore the dense pine forest paths.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to walk up the steep hillside road parallel to the track, as it lacks sidewalks and is exposed to vehicle traffic.

Good to know

Operations may be suspended during high wind conditions or for periodic annual maintenance.

Etiquette

Maintain quiet during the transit; no smoking allowed inside the carriages.
