The park features 14 miles of hiking trails that traverse hilly terrain, including sections of the Hardwood Hills landscape. Water recreation is central to the visitor experience, with access to swimming beaches, boat launches, and canoe rentals on Lake Carlos. Diverse camping options are available, ranging from modern drive-in sites with electric hookups to equestrian campsites and rustic cart-in sites. The park is home to a significant population of white-tailed deer and serves as a habitat for over 200 species of migratory birds. Anglers frequent the lake for populations of walleye, northern pike, and largemouth bass. The site includes a historic picnic shelter constructed by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s.
