Overview

The Second Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge connects Mukdahan, Thailand, to Savannakhet, Laos, across the Mekong River. Opened in 2006, the bridge spans 1,600 meters in length and 12 meters in width. It serves as a vital component of the East-West Economic Corridor, facilitating trade between Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. The design features a concrete girder construction typical of cross-border infrastructure in the Greater Mekong Subregion. Travelers cross via the international border checkpoint located at both ends of the span. The bridge replaced older ferry services, significantly reducing transit time for commercial freight and regional commuters. Customs and immigration facilities are located on both the Thai side in Mukdahan and the Lao side in Savannakhet.
