Overview

The Deira Clocktower is a historic monument situated at the intersection of Umm Hurair Road and D89 in the Port Saeed area of Dubai. Constructed in 1962, it is widely considered the oldest significant landmark in the city. The tower was designed by architect Otto Bulart and features a four-dial clock face, originally powered by an Omega movement. It underwent a major restoration in 2023 to preserve its concrete structure and modernize its decorative lighting. The monument stands in the center of a busy traffic roundabout, marking the gateway to the Deira district. It was built to commemorate the first exports of oil from the Trucial States. The structure remains an icon of Dubai's pre-oil and early-development history.
