Overview

Pengpeng Hot Spring A-Zone is a wild, undeveloped geothermal area situated along the Fanfan River in Yilan County's Datong Township. The spring water emerges from the riverbed, allowing visitors to dig their own natural soaking pools in the gravelly terrain. The site features weakly alkaline carbonated springs with temperatures reaching up to 60 degrees Celsius. The area is located within an Indigenous tribal territory, specifically the Yingshi Village area. Reaching the spring requires traversing a riverbed, making access entirely dependent on local water levels and weather conditions. There are no man-made facilities, showers, or restrooms available on-site.

Insider tips

Bring a sturdy shovel to assist in deepening or enlarging your natural soaking pool.

Wear water-friendly trekking sandals or sturdy closed-toe water shoes to navigate the river rocks safely.

Pack all trash out, as there are no waste management facilities in this remote natural setting.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to cross the river during or immediately after heavy rainfall due to flash flood risks.

Good to know

Access may be restricted or closed by local tribal authorities during extreme weather events or periods of high water levels.

Etiquette
