Overview

The Jogulamba Temple is recognized as one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas, marking the site where the upper teeth of the goddess Sati are believed to have fallen. The current structure is a reconstructed 2009 temple, designed in the Chalukyan architectural style after the original 7th-century shrine was destroyed by invaders. It is situated on the left bank of the Tungabhadra River within the Navabrahma Temple complex. The deity, Jogulamba, is depicted in a seated position with a scorpion, frog, and lizard carved into the slab near her feet. The temple is constructed primarily from red sandstone. The site is located in the town of Alampur, which serves as a gateway to the Srisailam forest region.
